A birthday with a bang!

Despite inclement weather of near biblical proportions affecting the recent Farnborough International Airshow, Aerospace Manufacturing magazine still managed to celebrate its 10th anniversary in the world of trade publishing with a birthday cake cutting ceremony on its stand in front of an assembly of specially invited guests.

Indeed, the airshow was forced to close on the opening day after torrential rain threatened to cascade down the halls, forcing the show organisers, Farnborough International Limited, to pull the plug on the electrical power supplies to the many exhibitor stands and evacuate the halls.

By Wednesday the weather had stabilised slightly, but it was still difficult to tell whether the bangs and rumbles taking place outside the halls were caused by air displays of the latest jet fighter’s afterburners rattling our ribcages, or indeed the next wave of black storm clouds brewing up over the airfield!

Fortunately, come rain or shine, Aerospace Manufacturing was on hand to offer safe haven and calm the nerves with birthday cake – and lots of it too! Magazine editor, Mike Richardson and sales director Andy Morley delivered short speeches and the entire ceremony was caught on video by our cameraman, who, along with our deputy editor, Ed Hill also did a great job of interviewing various exhibitor spokespeople during the airshow itself. Both videos are now available for viewing from our new website. Thanks to everyone that came along to share our celebrations.

Published by MIT Publishing Limited, Aerospace Manufacturing was first launched at the 2006 Farnborough Airshow. You could say we started with a bang, and judging from the crazy weather throughout the airshow week, we certainly ended with one too!
