Aerospace body launches youth awards

The North West Aerospace Alliance (NWAA) has launched its annual youth awards, honouring the brightest and best in the regional aerospace sector.

Two major titles will be awarded at the New Talent Awards, with The North West Best Aerospace/Defence Apprenticeship Award open to final year apprentices at North West companies. The closing date for nominations is Friday, September 16, 2011.

The second award, the Sir Frank Whittle Award, is for the student whose university project is rated highest against the criteria of innovation and potential for commercial application. Candidates must be enrolled on a Bachelors or Masters degree course at a North West university. The closing date is Friday, November 25, 2011.

This awards ceremony will take place at the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI), Manchester, on February 9, 2012 and will feature guest speakers and a dinner.

Alison Ainsworth, image and engagement coordinator at the NWAA, said: “A vital part of the work carried out by the NWAA is supporting young people and encouraging them into the engineering and manufacturing sectors. These awards are always a great chance to honour some of the most talented young people in the region, and hopefully help them on their way to a successful career.”

A number of sponsorship packages are available and provide an opportunity for organisations to show their support for the awards.
