An example of UK manufacturing excellence

BIS has chosen Yamazaki Mazak as one of four examples of excellence in British manufacturing at the unveiling of an exhibition to demonstrate world class engineering.

The Government Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), has chosen Worcester-based Yamazaki Mazak as one of four examples of excellence in British manufacturing at the unveiling of an exhibition to demonstrate world class design, manufacturing and engineering.

Commissioned by the BIS, the exhibition, which includes exhibits by Mazak, JCB, Renishaw and Craftsman Tools, marks the start of a rolling programme of themed displays developed to encourage a new generation of innovators into British industry.

Displays for the initial exhibition have been chosen to demonstrate the engineering supply chain and are available to view throughout the public areas of the BIS headquarters at One Victoria Street in London.

As one of the world's largest suppliers of CNC metalcutting machine tools, Mazak is displaying a wing rib component, engineered for a commercial airliner using the VTC-800/30SR vertical machining centre which is designed and built at Mazak's manufacturing facility in Worcester, in the UK.

“Britain is a world class leader in manufacturing, but if we are to inspire future generations we must do all we can to promote UK excellence,” stated Business Minister Mark Prisk. “As a signal of our intent we have invited shining examples of British design, engineering and manufacture to showcase their products at the department.”

Damien Cleugh, European marketing manager for Yamazaki Mazak, commented: “We are very pleased to have been selected to represent the very best in British manufacturing and fully support the BIS initiative to encourage talented young people to pursue a career in the engineering and manufacturing industries.

“Mazak's position as the world leader in computer controlled machine tool technology is due to the innovation and vision of our engineers. It is essential that, in the UK, engineering is seen as a ‘premier' career choice, to ensure that the quality of our future engineers enables us to remain at the forefront in an increasingly competitive global marketplace.”
