Boost for obsolescence workshops

The value of sending delegates to obsolescence workshops is perceived as higher now than it has been in previous years, according to a survey conducted by the Component Obsolescence Group (COG).

A survey of delegates to COG 2010 workshops shows a 20% increase in the number of delegates rating the workshops as excellent or good value for money, compared to the workshops in the previous two years. The usefulness of the information gained from the workshops, to the delegates' business, has also increased, with 96% of delegates rating the usefulness as good or excellent and the remaining 4% rating it as acceptable.

Ian Blackman, COG CEO, commented: “With intense scrutiny on budgets, a fall in delegate numbers for the 2010 workshops would not have been surprising. However, delegate numbers are being maintained and the feedback on usefulness and value for money is higher than ever before. This reinforces the fact that, far from reducing investment in managing obsolescence, OEMs are increasingly regarding it as a business-critical activity which allows them to minimise unplanned costs and improve long-term product sustainability.”

Further workshops have been announced focusing on ‘Planned Upgrades', on 20th October 2010, and on ‘Emerging Technology and Reliability' on 19th January. COG restricts delegate numbers to 25 per workshop to ensure maximum participation and value for each delegate.
