Going it alone with PowerMILL

Leaving a secure job to set up your own business is always an uncertain move but one that was made easier for Dusan Micic by having software and support from his local Delcam office.

Micic established Redrox in Mississauga, Ontario, during 2007. His facility houses a 5-axis DMG DMU 60 and a 3-axis Haas VF5, both programmed using Delcam's PowerMILL CAM system.

Selecting the right CAM system to meet the demands of the new business was not a difficult search. Micic had previously used PowerMILL while working as a programmer at Reil Industrial, a well-established aerospace manufacturer that focuses on airframe and avionics components. From that experience, he knew that PowerMILL was the best solution for his new venture.

In just a short time, Micic has made quite a repetition for Redrox among his aerospace and military customers. “We do a lot of very difficult-to-machine parts with incredibly tight tolerances,” he explained. “In order to meet these very strict demands and the high quality standards of my customers, I need to know that everything I am using is really reliable. PowerMILL gives me the tools and the confidence to do each job right the first time.”

Being the owner, operator, programmer and machinist, Micic can't accommodate any failures in his equipment.

“PowerMILL helps greatly to achieve all my customers' requirements from drawings to finish machining,” he commented. “When you have very complex parts, it is a great help to see everything, right down to the smallest details, on the computer screen before passing the programs to the machine.”

Much of the work that Redrox does comes from aerospace suppliers in the area. “I have a great relationship with my customers so I need to make sure their deadlines are met,” he stated. “Being a small company, I can't afford to wait for technical support for that day's job. With Delcam, when I need support, I get it. This has helped me out tremendously.”
