Graduating to new heights

Launched in 1971, the four-year scheme provides an essential pipeline of skilled aircraft engineers for MAEL and the wider industry. Last week 12 aircraft engineering apprentices successfully completed a City and Guilds Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Aeronautical Engineering.

Of the 12 graduates, six engineers will be based at Luton with the remaining six based at a Birmingham facility. New to the awards ceremony this year was the ‘apprentice of the year’ award. Ross Pardy was awarded this accolade by Monarch Aircraft Engineering Managing Director Chris Dare. The award includes a place for Ross on a full Level 3 Airbus A320 family aircraft type course which will be delivered at the Monarch Aircraft Engineering Training Academy. The award was designed and then manufactured by the team in the Component Maintenance Centre and is representative of the materials and skills used in this department.

MAEL says it remains committed to developing the next generation of skilled aircraft engineers with the summer 2017 apprenticeship programme having started last week. 20 apprentices in this year’s intake will be taking on positions across MAEL’s aircraft maintenance facilities at London Luton, Birmingham and Gatwick airports.
