Improving kitting efficiency

Hurst Green Plastics (hall 1, stand D10) has supplied many aerospace companies with its Kanban line side dispensing systems; the TwinBin, and more recently the FlagBin

. In addition, it has recently developed a kitting solution for one of its customers to improve part of its service offering.

Current methods of providing parts in kits vary, but usually involve supplying any variety of parts required for a job within large cases with the parts individually packed in plastic bags or cardboard boxes. At this particular customer, this was causing a lot of waste products each time a kit was finished. It was also very difficult to provide traceability and a lot of time was being wasted by the supplier of the parts as well as the user in ensuring the kits were complete, amongst other inconveniences.

One major issue for the service provider was that when parts were not required by the end user, it had to recount the parts in order to re-issue them at a later date. This was extremely time consuming and costly as parts frequently had to be scrapped. Hurst Green Plastic's offering featured a unique locking mechanism on each kitbox so that the user could see if a box has been breached or not so the parts could instantly be re-issued.

Hurst has also developed further solutions to solve various other issues. By supplying kits in a durable case, the parts for the kit are stored internally in a variety of small kitboxes. The whole system is secure, traceable and completely versatile. By trialling and developing the product with its end users, the new kitting solution has been ergonomically designed and allows service providers and end users to send and receive all parts in the kit quickly and easily.
