Launched earlier this year, the Iscar LOGIQ range of cutting tools has already caused a major stir in the UK aerospace manufacturing sector.

As the comprehensive Iscar LOGIQ range provides innovative solutions to a multitude of machining activities, the launch was attended by representatives of all industry sectors. In addition to attendees from major aerospace companies, personnel from many UK, Tier one suppliers and numerous aerospace subcontractors were also present.

Soon after its launch, the advanced new Iscar LOGIQ range made its MACH debut, a large number of exhibition visitors have already began using various examples of Iscar LOGIQ cutting tools. The positive feed-back received from early UK aerospace manufacturing industry Iscar LOGIQ users, indicates that the promised machining performance improvements have been realised and, in some cases, exceeded. These customers are now considering other machining processes that could benefit from the efficiencies already delivered by the use of Iscar LOGIQ cutting tools.

To ensure the creation of advanced new cutting tools that provide industry specific solutions to even the most problematic of machining situations, Iscar employ several industry specific product managers, each an acknowledged expert in their own particular field. Constant communication with customers involved in all aspects of the global aerospace manufacturing sector, a thorough understanding of advancements in aerospace materials and an in-depth knowledge of current aerospace related machine tool developments, allows Iscar’s aerospace product manager to provide invaluable feedback to the company R&D department. Based on this feedback, Iscar’s R&D engineers and designers have combined their considerable expertise and experience to develop highly effective and logical tool solutions that meet even the most challenging of the global aerospace manufacturing industry’s demands. It was this high-level of cooperation that resulted in the inclusion of numerous, aerospace manufacturing related, advanced cutting tools into the new Iscar LOGIQ range.

In the aerospace manufacturing sectors where continuous cost-down pressures are the norm, the enhancement of even the most basic of cutting tools can contribute to factors such as, increasing productivity, reducing waste and lowering costs. However, rather than representing minimal technical progress in one or two limited machining areas, cutting tools in the new LOGIQ range represent major advancements. Moreover, Iscar’s comprehensive LOGIC range is an all-embracing, cost-effective line-up of cutting tools that delivers multiple advantages across all major machining disciplines.

LOGIQ tool innovations include quick release, yet robust locking mechanisms that guarantee stable, vibration free machining with superior repeatability. Indexable LOGIQ inserts boast ingenious chip formers that enable extremely efficient chip evacuation; they also feature innovative geometries that enable soft cuts to be achieved at high feed rates. Iscar’s latest cemented carbide grades reflect the company’s forward-looking philosophy and know-how within the fields of powder metallurgy and coating technologies.

A range of advanced new LOGIQ solid carbide tools have been developed with inventive designs that feature substantially increased anti-vibration characteristics – a key factor for boosting productivity in unfavourable cutting conditions. The new LOGIQ tool-holding line includes heat-shrink-fit and vibration-dampening devices which considerably improve performance in areas were tool rigidity is a critical parameter. The latest LOGIQ milling solutions include strong, durable inserts and milling heads with improved capabilities.

LOGIQ turning tools offer a range of new solutions that enable substantial reductions in machining loads; they allow the production of thinner and wider chips and also help to resolve vibration issues and improve coolant flow capabilities. Last but not least, a range of advanced LOGIQ drilling tool concepts deliver significant productivity gains in addition to improving accuracy and repeatability.
