LAP wins A350 XWB order

LAP Laser has announced that it has been commissioned by Airbus to provide 220 laser projection systems.

The company won the order in a worldwide tender process against competitors from Germany, Canada and the USA and has now become a strategic partner to the OEM.

Airbus will use the laser projectors in the manufacture of carbon fibre components for wings, fuselage and tail units of the new Airbus A350 XWB to further optimise the efficiency of production.

During the carbon fibre component build up process, LAP's systems will indicate by laser beams where each individual carbon fibre layer is located, saving both time and money as the components no longer need to be aligned by means of difficult-to-handle templates and complicated measurements. All elements are placed in the right position at the right time; verification and documentation are included. The laser projectors will also be used to check the position of the layers during the assembly process.

During the next three years, Airbus will install the laser projectors at production facilities in Germany, Spain and France, with the first projectors ready for shipment to the Aerolia works in Meaulte, France.
