The Coventry-based Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) is to take part in one of the world's leading defence and security exhibitions.

The MTC will be exhibiting at the huge Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) event at the Excel Centre in London in September. The event brings together governments, national armed forces, industry leaders and global defence and security suppliers.

The MTC will be showcasing its advanced manufacturing capabilities and expertise at the four day event. In particular it will show off its leadership in additive manufacturing and other advanced processes at the cutting edge of the manufacturing sector.

The MTC's associate director for defence and security, Andy Barnes, said the MTC is already working with a number of major UK defence industry partners, as well as the Ministry of Defence.

He said: "Like all industry sectors, the UK defence and security sector is having to adapt to huge technological change and the MTC is expertly positioned to help. The DSEI event brings together leading suppliers and manufacturers with end-users. We aim to demonstrate how new manufacturing technologies can help to address the challenges of producing and maintaining the next generation of defence and security equipment," he said.

The MTC was founded by the University of Birmingham, Loughborough University, the University of Nottingham and TWI Ltd. The MTC’s industrial members include some of the UK’s major global manufacturers.

The MTC aims to provide a competitive environment to bridge the gap between university-based research and the development of innovative manufacturing solutions, in line with the Government’s manufacturing strategy. The MTC is part the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, supported by Innovate UK.
