Organised by engineers for engineers

The 10th European Components for Military and Space Electronics (CMSE) conference will take place at the Marriott Hotel, Portsmouth 22-24 June.

Billed as the premier conference on the engineering, design, and use of COTS electronics in military and space systems,

Organised by Cognition AM and the Components Technology Institute, the conference is intended to help engineers make the right choice of electrical and electronic components, including military standards or COTS, for military and space applications. Indeed, the conference recognises that the same performance capability and quality/reliability level does not fit all project needs for cost, performance and schedule.

“CMSE provides a great opportunity for delegates to obtain an insight into the key issues concerning COTS-based electronics in military and space systems,” said Cognition's director, Ian Blackman. “They can also network with like-minded professionals and gain valuable information from experts from the industry to enable them to make better informed decisions when planning avionics-related design and manufacturing programmes.

“CMSE will focus on new technology, processes and design practices, with particular emphasis on practical solutions, new techniques and how to assess the risks of COTS verses mil-spec components and make cost effective decisions which meet the mission requirements.”

Specific subjects for discussion include: application practices for both COTS and mil-spec components; mil-spec designs versus COTS systems; case studies of COTS usage in military and space systems; mitigating the impact of obsolescence; approaches for updating older military systems; cost analysis of using COTS components when military qualified components are available.
