This year’s Composites Europe event assembles a strong trio of features, including the trade fair itself, a Lightweight Technologies forum and an International Composites Conference presentation on lightweight construction.

Composite Europe’s 14th European Trade Fair and Forum, held from 10–12 September at the Messe Stuttgart, Germany will soon be upon us.

Show organiser, Reed Exhibitions Deutschland says the composites industry is currently providing key impetus for lightweight construction, modern mobility concepts and material innovations. The aerospace sector is one of the main buyers of reinforced plastics. Faced with international competition, the industry therefore calls for solutions with a high degree of automation to satisfy demand and cut component costs.

Trade fair visitors will encounter more than 300 exhibitors from 30 nations presenting materials, technical solutions and innovative application examples. Alongside new products, the trade fair places special emphasis on innovative process engineering and know-how related to the use of composites in aircraft manufacturing and the space industry.

With its ‘Process live’ feature, Composites Europe makes the synchronised processing and manufacturing steps in the industry visible. In four different special areas, machine and equipment manufacturers like Gunnar, Hacoteck, Rebstock and Trans-Textil will stage live demos on cutting and vacuum infusion processes with their partner companies. The companies will demonstrate these technologies in ‘live’ interaction, i.e. in operation with the aim of showing the individual part processes within a production context.

It all weighs up

Aerospace manufacturing will be also in the focus of the Lightweight Technologies Forum (LTF), which is part of Composites Europe. This Forum views itself as a cross-industry and multi-material think tank where all parties involved can reflect on how lightweight construction can be achieved in an economical and resource-efficient manner.

Composite Europe returns to the Messe Stuttgart from 10-12 September

Combining its own exhibition space with a lecture forum, the LTF demonstrates how glass fibre-reinforced plastics and carbon fibre-reinforced plastics leverage their strengths mixed with other materials in hybrid structural components. On display will be showcase exhibits from the aviation, automotive and construction sectors as well as materials and tooling. In their talks, experts will provide an overview of novel manufacturing and joining technologies as well as of key reference projects. Experts will also present the results of a technology study on the future of lightweight construction in the aerospace industry.

The International Composites Conference (ICC) injects a fresh breeze of innovations into the market by bringing together processors and users of fibre-reinforced plastics from all over Europe. For the first time, this renowned conference will be held concurrently with Composites Europe. The series of lectures was put together by the trade association Composites Germany and will also be more closed dovetailed with the trade fair in content terms. One of the cross-cutting themes of the future that keeps the entire industry on its toes is multi-material solutions in nearly all application industries.

The partner country of the Conference is the UK. The ICC especially seeks to foster the exchange between all European countries considering the Brexit debate. After all, this country is one of the biggest producers of composites parts in Europe.

Composites Europe 2019 will be co-located with Foam Expo Europe for the first time. This trade fair covers the supply chain of technical foam production and shows moulded, rigid and soft foam solutions – from raw materials to equipment and machinery. The parallel exhibition dates generate special synergies for gaining an overview of lightweight construction materials for such shared applications as the aviation, automotive, construction and sports and leisure industries.
