Raising standards for AS13100 compliance

Aero engine manufacturers can now take advantage of a fully endorsed training initiative, so far only partly being adopted by AESQ members supply chains.

SMMT Industry Forum’s latest three-day APQP/PPAP course is recognised by leading AESQ member Rolls-Royce as the optimum supplier training and examination course for the qualification requirement listed in AS13100 – including PPAP Coordinator and CARe approval certification – and meets stringent syllabus criteria.

Rolls-Royce stipulate that all their suppliers PPAP Coordinators and CARE’s must have this level of training and examination to meet the qualification requirements listed in AS13100.

Richard Hammond, principal consultant of aerospace management systems at SMMT Industry Forum and an approved Rolls-Royce Aero sector trainer, said: “We’re not aware of any other training provider being similarly endorsed by an AESQ member, or any other course meeting reference manual RM13145 syllabus requirements, so we’re confident it’s the most comprehensive, robust and targeted training initiative around.

“Suppliers' QMS must meet AS13100 requirement by January 2023 – like Rolls-Royce document SABRe mandates compliance to AS13100 by the end of this year as part of their customer specific requirements - so while the pandemic has delayed matters there’s still a mission critical deadline looming. We see other aero engine manufacturers following Rolls-Royce’s contractual lead, so it’s becoming increasingly imperative to follow the very latest best practice from the AESQ reference manuals.”

Effective APQP and PPAP ensures smoother transition for product development into production, more effective changes to existing products and processes, greater confidence in source changes and a quicker, less troublesome customer approval process.

Deeper understanding of the AESQ process also enables organisations to take advantage of the model detailed in RM13145 – and gain competitive advantage by having a more focused and efficient procedure for managing the introduction of new products, changes to existing ones, plus process and source changes.

Furthermore, an end of course exam qualifies delegates in the role of PPAP Coordinator or CARe as required by the AESQ RM13145, while also benefitting those persons tasked with auditing of the organisations APQP/PPAP process.
