UK Aerospace and defence supply chain excellence rewarded

Seven companies in the aerospace and defence supply chains have been recognised for achieving a Gold performance award, the highest possible level, as part of the 21st Century Supply Chains (SC21) Operational Excellence (OE) programme for improving operational effectiveness and achieving supply chain excellence.

The SC21 Recognising Excellence in the Supply Chain event at FIA Connect, saw 54 companies from around the UK and Ireland recognised with performance awards for boosting their performance and competitiveness through the SC21 OE programme. The programme helps SMEs in aerospace and defence to make operational improvements, reduce overheads and improve their potential to grow.

The SC21 programme is coordinated and governed by ADS, the UK trade association for the aerospace, defence, security and space sectors.

To achieve a Gold performance award more than 99.00% of the products or services from the company must have been delivered on time and to the required quality, a minimum of 99.99% compliant products or services.

Four Gold winning companies are being re-awarded their Gold certification this year reconfirming their ability to deliver at the highest possible level.

The Gold award winners are:

  • Kaefer, Portsmouth Royal Navy Dockyard, England, has received Gold for the first time

  • Kuehne + Nagel, Houndstone, has received Gold for the first time

  • Kuehne + Nagel, Leonardo Production Stores from Yeovil, England, has received Gold for the first time

  • A&G Precision Engineering from Poulton-le-Fylde in England, for the second consecutive year

  • Denroy Plastics from Bangor, Northern Ireland, for the third consecutive year

  • IPC Mouldings, from Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland, for the second consecutive year

  • Moyola Precision Engineering from Castledawson, Northern Ireland, for the second consecutive year.

23 companies have been awarded a Silver performance award, five of whom are receiving it for the first time. 24 companies have been awarded Bronze, eight for the first time.

ADS chief executive Paul Everitt said: “The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented crisis faced by the industry and never before has operational excellence been so important as we look towards recovery. The SC21 programme provides a great opportunity for companies in the UK’s aerospace and defence sectors to boost their productivity, helping the whole industry to improve its competitiveness.

“All the companies who take part in the SC21 supply chain improvement programme have worked hard to achieve their awards. It demonstrates the value participants place on it that some of the programme’s most successful businesses have returned and continue to strive to achieve ever higher standards.

“Congratulations to all of those who have been recognised today for their hard work.”
