Software company CoreTechnologie has developed the 3D_Evolution Simplifier tool. From now on, triangulated bodies can be replaced by envelopes and saved as CAD volume models and assemblies.

This makes it possible to automatically convert tessellated visualisations and scan data from formats such as .cgr, .jt, .stl, .obj or .vrml into B-Rep solids and save all major CAD formats such as Catia, Nx, Jt, or Step to convert.

This means models are enormously compressed by the precise, significantly more compact B-REP description, which is based on surfaces and "solids", and enable up to 95% reduction.

The result is highly simplified data feasible for collision investigations, simulations, digital mock-ups or drawing derivations. In addition, internal bodies, i.e. bodies that are not visible from the outside, can be automatically deleted in order to further reduce the file size. At the same time, the envelope's proprietary know-how is protected in order to enable secure data exchange with customers and suppliers.

Reducing the complexity of large 3D CAD models is an important issue in virtual factory planning. Due to the increasing level of detail and the size of the CAD models without a simplification and envelope geometry generation, the number of elements to be displayed exceeds in many cases the performance of today's workstations.

In practice, an automated simplification and data reduction are essential for the manageability of large amounts of data.
