Third Dimension has been named winner of the Queen’s Award for Innovation - the UK’s highest accolade for business success - for GapGun, its handheld, laser-based optical measurement device.

GapGun enables the accurate measurement of three dimensional surfaces and the recording of dimensions such as angles, radius and gaps, simply by pulling a trigger. Data collected is analysed to proactively identify defects or monitor geometric conditions. This enable manufactures to rectify and improve quality in real-time, on the production line.

This is the second time Third Dimension has won the Queen’s Award, having won the International Trade category in 2015. The Bristol-based company also won the EEF Future Manufacturing regional award for Innovation this year and the EEF regional award for Outstanding Export category in 2015.

Tim Monks, CEO at Third Dimension, said: “Turning innovative ideas into commercial success is what makes our business tick, so I’m delighted to have won this prestigious award. I’m fortunate to work with an extremely talented bunch of people in all areas of the business– each playing their part in GapGun’s development. This award recognises everyone’s hard work and the loyalty of our much-valued customers who trust us time and time again to deliver cutting edge precision measurement solutions which help them save time, money and resources.”

Third Dimension has recently launched Vectro; which automates the measurement capabilities of GapGun and Inspect; a quick and easy-to-use quality inspection software tool which enables flexible analysis of a component’s profile when used alongside the GapGun Pro.

Representatives of Third Dimension will be attending a special Queen’s Award reception at Buckingham Palace in July to recognise this significant achievement.
