Umeco joins National Composites Centre

Leading composites manufacturer Umeco has today joined the National Composites Centre (NCC), with a place on the NCC board.

Umeco has taken out ‘Tier 1' membership of the NCC after working closely with the Centre over the past six months and joins the University of Bristol (as chair) and several other leading manufacturing and engineering companies on the board: Vestas, Airbus, GKN Aerospace, Rolls Royce and Agusta Westland.

Tier 1 membership is for an initial three year period at a cost of £0.3million per annum and comes with a range of benefits, including: membership of the NCC board, participation in the NCC's core research and technology programmes, company-specific programmes and full access to the NCC's facilities and expertise. Tier 1 membership commits Umeco & NCC to collaborative research projects for at least three years.

Peter Chivers, executive director of the NCC, said: “This is fantastic news for the National Composites Centre. Umeco is a world class company whose success demonstrates the importance of composites across several industries. We are very pleased to welcome them into the NCC as Tier 1 members.”

Andrew Moss, CEO of Umeco, said: “We are pleased to be part of the NCC Board and look forward to developing a close working relationship with world-leading manufacturers and UK academics to develop new technologies and promote the application of composites. Umeco has significant experience in a wide range of market sectors and is actively engaged in on-going materials and application technologies development. We see this as an excellent opportunity to firmly establish the UK's excellence in the composites industry.”

The NCC building is scheduled to open in the summer.
