Made from hardwearing, aerospace approved micrograin carbide, it has a sharply honed cutting edge with positive primary and radial clearance angles for achieving stress free penetration and excellent chip evacuation. The tool also features a reduced shank for greater flexibility in reach and work holding lengths, making it ideal for profiling of walls, pockets and surfaces in 2D and 3D.
“As 60% of the cutting temperature remains at the cutting edge during machining of challenging materials such as titanium, it is vitally important to control speed, feed and engagement,” explains John Palmer, ATI Stellram's global aerospace manager. “Thanks to the RSM tool's variable cutting geometry, engagement can be effectively managed so that the cutting edge is better preserved while issues such as galling and smearing are minimised.”
The company will also display a selection of other programs designed for fast metal removal rates including the 5230VS chevron milling cutter, a roughing tool for profiling and slotting applications, and the versatile 7792VX high feed milling cutter for use on high temperature alloys and stainless steels.
