The Centre for Modelling & Simulation (CFMS), a specialist in digitally enabled high value design capability, has announced the appointment of Ian Risk as chief technology officer.

The Centre for Modelling & Simulation (CFMS), a specialist in digitally enabled high value design capability, has announced the appointment of Ian Risk as chief technology officer.

Risk will take up the executive level role in January 2018 and will be responsible for evolving the company's technical vision and leading all aspects of technology development according to its strategic direction and growth objectives.

He commented: “I have followed the progress of CFMS since its formation. I look forward to joining the great team there, helping it to grow by delivering a strategic technology portfolio that supports industrial digitalisation across a range of industries.”

Recognised in industry, academia and government for his prior role at Airbus Group, Risk was head of Airbus Group Innovations UK. Here, he was responsible for the UK corporate research capability, developing technical strategy, business development and initiating industrial and academic partnerships.

With 40 years’ experience in the aerospace sector, Risk has held a number of senior positions throughout his career at Airbus and British Aerospace with a demonstrable track record in technology innovation and research and development.

Risk is the latest executive appointment to the CFMS Board and joins Sam Paice, chief operating officer, who commented: “CFMS is entering a key phase in its planned growth. Our focus is on providing access to digitally enabled high value design technologies that will accelerate design and manufacturing productivity and competitiveness in the global marketplace. I am delighted that Ian has accepted the role of chief technology officer.”
