Oerlikon and MTU Aero Engines have signed a deal to collaborate on the further development of engine components, materials, and surface technologies for aircraft engines.
MTU is responsible for final assembly of one third of the PW1100G-JM geared turbofans that power the Airbus A320neo. To gear up for these engines, MTU has developed an innovative floor-based line assembly system and built it up and put it into operation at the company’s headquarters in Munich.
MTU Aero Engines has built a new test centre for engine parts on its Munich premises, investing more than €25m in a new building and advanced test equipment.
