DSEi challenges the inventors of the world

DSEi, Europe's premier exhibition for land, maritime and air applications of defence and security products and technologies, has launched the DSEi Innovation Challenge.

Around the world there is an unprecedented level of demand for innovation in defence and security. The organisers of DSEi, Europe's premier exhibition for land, maritime and air applications of defence and security products and technologies, have responded by launching the DSEi Innovation Challenge.

Open to companies, organisations and individuals globally, the Challenge is seeking new ideas that will make a significant contribution to defence or security capability. To qualify entries can be at the concept, prototype or completed stage but not yet on the market.

Initial screening of the entries is being done by the UK MoD's Centre for Defence Enterprise (CDE). Six entries will then go forward for personal presentation at DSEi by their inventors to a panel of judges which will include Dr Helen Almey, Head of CDE; Louise Owen, Futures and Innovation domain lead, Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL); Captain Gordon Graham, DSTL's maritime and CBRN senior military advisor.

The presentations will take place on Thursday 15th September and each contestant will have six minutes to make their pitch with a further five minutes for questions. The judges will then consider their verdict and nominate the best new idea. The winner will receive a free stand at DSEi 2013 together with £500 towards their expenses. The closing date for entries is 12th August 2011.

DSEi exhibition director, Duncan Reid said: “There is no doubt that the Innovation Challenge is resonating with the creative minds in our industry. We are already receiving abstracts for some fascinating ideas and are really looking forward to the final at DSEi.”
