EDV UK, the Sheffield-based precision rotary tooling manufacturer, has launched a new specialised cutting tool for the aerospace market.

The new 5XD tool is designed to cut both titanium and Inconel. It has an intensified material substrate and geometry, which allows for an extremely rigid construction, substantially reduces radial side deflection and results in improved sidewall straightness and part accuracy. In short, it provides quality surface finishing in intermediate machining conditions. The range will feature tools from 12mm to 32mm diameter and will all be available in a wide range of specialised coatings

With over 50 years’ experience in the industry, EDV UK was acquired by North West Precision Ltd (NWP), a division of Arlington Industries, due to their technical capability of making carbide and polycrystalline diamond cutting tools for precision machining.

Bob Young, general manager at EDV UK, said: “Our new specialised cutting tool will offer unrivalled levels of excellence to customers. It’s the first to be released under Arlington Aerospace’s stewardship. It certainly won’t be the last.”
