Exploring new frontiers

Taking place once again at Amsterdam City Centre's Passenger Terminal from 24-25 March 2010, Avionics Europe returns with a new defence electronics element.

During its 10 year history, Avionics Europe has grown into a leading global exhibition and conference for commercial and defence avionics. International competition has intensified and, as well as existing aerospace economies, there are a growing number of emerging markets seeking their own aerospace capabilities.

Providing a premier platform for the international aviation industry to learn, network, source new information, products and services at one annual event, Avionics Europe offers an ideal meeting place where key decision makers, scientists, technologists, engineers and procurement specialists from within the leading avionics manufacturers, suppliers, integrators, airlines, operators and airframers, prime contractors and end users can meet to discuss the latest issues and developments affecting avionics technology.

The exhibition will showcase leading and state-of-the-art technologies and products displayed by exhibitors from Europe and around the globe, covering both civil and military disciplines with the latest technology, products and services on offer.

The event has also become the annual meeting place for airlines, operators, prime contractors and systems integrators to meet and discuss the burning issues of the day and how the industry can move forward with integrated solutions.

Avionics Europe recently announced the support of two distinguished Dutch industry organisations: the Netherlands Defence Manufacturers Association (NIDV) and the Netherlands Aerospace Group (NAG). Both provide an important endorsement to this important event for the avionics and defence electronics industry.

The NIDV promotes involvement of the Netherlands industry with respect to procurement and the assignments of the Ministry of Defence in the Netherlands, as well as emerging markets around the world.

The NAG is the Dutch trade association, encompassing aerospace companies and organisations engaged in education, R&D, engineering, manufacturing and MRO of civil and military systems and equipment.

A high level informative multi-track conference with master classes and technical workshops will provide a highly important educational and information gathering angle, whilst the numerous opportunities for networking during conference breaks, lunches and a drinks reception will help continue and encourage important discussions.

Entitled ‘Enabling performance based operations' the conference aims to discuss the need for the latest systems to deliver integrated, efficient and cost-effective solutions. The learning and information gathering experience extends across two conference tracks, master classes and technology workshops.

Conference highlights include presentations from: Airbus, AVTECH Sweden, BAE Systems, Barco, Boeing, CMC Electronics, EADS Deutschland, Eurocontrol, Federal Aviation Administration, Finnish Commuter Airlines, Helios, NavAero and Skypaq.

2010 also sees the launch of a new aspect to the event with the introduction of a Defence Electronics element that will sit with Avionics Europe.

Covering air, sea and land, Defence Electronics targets the issues central to designers of radar, command and control systems, reconnaissance and fire control to guided weapon platforms, land electronic defence systems (LEDS) and unmanned programmes such as unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and UAVs.

Issues and technologies covered will include: COTS (commercial off the shelf) technology integration; managing through-life capability; thermal management challenges in defence electronics systems; software defined radio; anti-tamper technology; methods for tracking counterfeit components; import/export challenges for defence suppliers; and more.

Defence Electronics will also provide a platform to present new technologies and systems and a forum to discuss the future of the European defence electronics industry to enable it to compete in the medium and long term.

The avionics and defence electronics industry is constantly innovative and evolving. And yet, despite being a tough year for the industry - and indeed the global economy - Avionics Europe incorporating Defence Electronics is still set to deliver what it claims will be an exciting and informative conference programme.
