Indestructible Paint says it has completed an extensive rationalisation of the Colour-Therm range of thermochromic paints – a move that is set to be of major benefit in a long list of application environments worldwide.

The established range of indicating coatings has been associated with Indestructible Paint for some time, but the company has now undertaken a re-evaluation designed to ensure the product choice fully matches user needs and, importantly, complies with all relevant standards, not least those defined by the REACH regulations.

“Our commitment to the Colour-Therm concept and product range has prompted us to create a specialist division within Indestructible Paint,” said John Bourke, Indestructible Paint’s global sales manager. “This has enabled us to provide a highly focused service in an area which can be central to both equipment performance and safety.”

The Colour-Therm range comprises a choice of coatings, sprays and adhesive labels which alter colour under pre-determined operational and environmental conditions. This centres on a chemical change that occurs in the coating’s solid compound, with operation achieved between 5°C and 360°C. Typical uses range from the identification of temperature overrun on sensitive materials and tamper-proofing, to decorative use on consumer products – with the material applied either by Indestructible Paint or, in many cases, by the end-user via a simple process. Importantly, the Colour-Therm range can be applied either during manufacture or as a retrofit operation.

“Safety is clearly high on the list of benefits,” continued Bourke, “with the simplicity of visual checking a clear advantage.” Both reversible and non-reversible options are available – the former allowing the Colour-Therm application to return to its normal condition after the colour change has taken place and appropriate action taken.

“The Colour-Therm range is now an important part of our product list and one which fits well with the established choices available from Indestructible Paint,” stated Brian Norton, Indestructible Paint’s managing director. “We have placed great emphasis on ensuring the range is structured to match customer needs while meeting appropriate regulatory requirements and, with this transitional process now complete, we believe the Colour-Therm name will add to our reputation which has always been based on developing and applying specialist performance coatings.”

Indestructible Paint highlights the suitability of the Colour-Therm range to a long list of applications in the aerospace sector – a marketplace that has always been at the heart of the company’s work – but also lists other industries ranging from nuclear power generation and packaging to automotive and oil and gas production as key areas that stand to benefit from this latest move.

With more than a thousand product configurations available – and all supplied with the research and development, back up and support that is central to the Indestructible Paint track record – the Colour-Therm range is now set to offer increasing benefits to a long list of users both in the UK and internationally.
