ITC makes light work of stock removal

When Atlantic Precision acquired a high specification Matsuura machining centre for 5-axis machining, the Hampshire based company immediately improved its machining speeds and feeds. However, the machine's potential was limited by the tooling so Matsuura's representative suggested implementing cutting tools from ITC.

ITC's representative introduced the Hanita Varimill to a series of components requiring heavy roughing work. Atlantic Precision's senior programmer, Colin Druett commented: “We were using rippers that were incapable of machining at the speeds and feeds that our Matsuura could achieve. This meant we were not reaching the full potential of the machine. The Matsuura representative recommended ITC cutters and rightly so. The Hanita Varimill made an instant impact.

“At the time, we were machining a complex aerospace component that required significant roughing work. With long processing times and a steady order for 100 parts per month, it proved problematic. However, the Hanita cutter immediately cut cycle times by 50%. The job was hardly turning our business a profit, but the new cutter turned the job into a profitable exercise.”
