Marshall completes 100 hours test flying of Tristar MMR upgrade

Marshall Aerospace says it has completed more than 100 hours of development and clearance flying of the Minimum Military Requirements Avionics Upgrade for the RAF Tristars.

Marshall Aerospace says it has completed more than 100 hours of development and clearance flying of the MMR (Minimum Military Requirements) Avionics Upgrade for the Royal Air Force Tristars.

The Trial Installation aircraft has successfully passed its scheduled maturity review with the Ministry of Defence, and is now being handed back to MoD to undergo scheduled maintenance before re-entering operational service in spring 2011.

Martin Broadhurst, chief executive, Marshall Aerospace said: “As an Air Transport Partner to the UK MoD, Marshall Aerospace fully appreciates the demanding operational task the Tristar plays in sustaining our forces' transportation through the vital airbridge between the UK and Afghanistan; and in fulfilling the Air to Air Refuelling requirements of fighters deploying to support National Interests in the Falklands and elsewhere.

“We are confident that the delivery of this avionics upgrade to the RAF will fully support the aircraft to achieve new levels of operational reliability, improve safety and play a key role in Air Transport operations until our forces withdraw from Afghanistan and the planned replacement aircraft take over AAR duties.”
