Metal parts from powder: disruptive or productive?

Metallic additive manufacturing processes have been developing rapidly in recent years, driven by the desire to increase material yield and reduce cost.

Powder-based Additive Layer Manufacturing (ALM) processes in particular are becoming well known for producing highly complex parts in an ever increasing range of materials. But are these technologies being adopted in our industries and where are the promised benefits?

To help address these issues, The Advanced Manufacturing Forum will be holding its quarterly seminar on Tuesday 23rd March at the Rolls-Royce Factory of the Future, Rotherham.

Members will be able to hear speakers from industry discuss issues such as:

• Certification - what barriers still need to be overcome?
• Where is ALM already being used?
• How can ALM enhance traditional processes?
• When, if ever, will ALM become mainstream?
• What are the implications for supply chain companies?
• Will powder always be so expensive?

Speakers include representatives from: The Boeing Company, 3TRPD and Metalysis. Membership to the AMF is £50 per year for two reserved places at quarterly seminars covering topics that the members influence. To register, contact: amf@amrc.co.uk
