Professor Singh wins aircraft engine technology award

Cranfield University's top gas turbine academic awarded the prestigious International Gas Turbine Institute's Aircraft Engine Technology Award 2010

Cranfield University's top gas turbine academic has been awarded the prestigious International Gas Turbine Institute's (IGTI) Aircraft Engine Technology Award 2010 for his continued contribution in the sector.

Professor Riti Singh is the first academic at the University to win the prize which is awarded annually to mark an outstanding international contribution within the gas turbine in industry and research. The honour was given at the 2010 ASME/IGTI Turbo Expo, Glasgow yesterday, and the largest related event of its kind.

He said: “I feel both honoured and humbled to get this award. Much of my work has been done jointly with colleagues and younger researchers and I am proud to have had the opportunity to work with them. This industry attracts the very best and it is a privilege to teach and work with motivated, bright young people.”

As part of the award ceremony, Professor Singh gave a presentation entitled “Post Nubes Lux: Aerospace Propulsion” (After Darkness comes Light) which discussed the pressures of climate change, and related concerns about propulsion. Post Nubes Lux also appears on Cranfield University's crest. One of Professor Singh's particular interests has been novel propulsion systems and their impact on climate change.

Ruben Del Rosario, Chair of the Aircraft Engine Award Committee said: “Professor Singh received this year's award because of his outstanding industry and academia leadership, and widespread contributions to aviation gas turbine cycle innovations, performance and design.”
