According to the ADS Group, Airbus is actively encouraging its second-tier supply chain to complete UK supplier development programme, SC21, in a concerted effort to strengthen its supply chain.

Designed to accelerate the competitiveness of the aerospace and defence industries, the SC21 programme has over 650 businesses on its continuous improvement journey. With over 400 awards granted since 2009 SC21 has enabled significant business growth within the UK supply chain. The programme is run by aerospace trade organisation ADS Group. Airbus has seen SC21 deliver benefits to aerospace supplier performance as well as a solid framework to develop their operations and grow. Airbus is sponsoring the creation of a series of regional clusters, supported by the Regional Aerospace Alliances, focusing on shared learning and benchmarking. Mark Haisman, head of procurement, Airbus in the UK, said: “We want to work with our supply chain to jointly improve performance at all tiers. Airbus is committed to working collaboratively and ultimately helping UK suppliers to improve their performance and profitability.” Phil Curnock, head of supply chain at ADS Group, added: “ADS is delighted to support Airbus in expanding its SC21 programme. This step forward demonstrates the breadth of impact the programme is having in supporting the UK Aerospace and Defence supply chains. “Greater collaborative working has been the strong foundation of the programme and the catalyst to unlocking the huge potential within the supply chain. SC21 will continue to help supply chain companies to grow and develop further skills support based on the needs of its beneficiaries.”   www.adsgroup.org.uk
