UK aerospace representatives land in Russia

A|D|S will be heading a UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) trade mission of companies involved in the British aerospace sector to Moscow, Russia from 29 March to 1 April.

Russia holds a reputation for innovative and leading design in aerospace, and the trade mission is the result of the high level of interest demonstrated by UK suppliers in the Russian market. With the ongoing advances in aerospace technology, as demonstrated by leading products such as the Sukhoi Superjet 100 and the anticipated United Aircraft Corporation's MS21, A|D|S and UKTI see this trade mission as an important opportunity for UK and Russian industry to interact and learn from each other.

Ian Godden, chairman of A|D|S, said: “The UK aerospace industry is number one in Europe, and number two in the world after the USA with a 17% global market share. This track record has been built up through unparalleled experience in a range of areas such as wing design, engine and aircraft systems plus a strong supply chain built on innovative smaller businesses.

“Russia has a long history of technological excellence in aviation and has ambitions to build a stronger presence in civil aviation to satisfy demand for modernising its airline fleet, and to complement its military aircraft success. It therefore makes sense for British and Russian companies to work out how to cooperate more over the next decade.”

Neil Semple, head of aerospace in UK Trade & Investment, said: “The mission to Russia will be the first stage of a more strategic engagement with the market. United Aircraft Corporation's (UAC) MS21 programme presents a great opportunity to partner with Russia in its civil aerospace development. We plan to follow up this mission by inviting UAC to Farnborough in July and to visit the UK again later in 2010."
