Wallwork heat treatment site retains Nadcap accreditation

Wallwork’s heat treatment facility in Manchester, UK, has again passed its Nadcap audit with merit, making it the largest scope for a single site in the UK, covering nine check sheets.

This creates a one-stop aerospace heat treatment facility. Nadcap accreditation is the highest level of international aerospace approval and is vital to doing business in this high-value sector of the economy.

Director Simeon Collins said: “At over 95,000ft2, this is the largest single-site heat treating facility in the UK with this level of aerospace scope. From a wide range of available treatments, we provide aerospace engineers with a one-stop-shop, backed by extensive laboratory, quality testing and technical expertise. We work with them to create specific processes that meet their exact requirements and unique needs.”

As a key supplier of metal heat treatment processes to aerospace engineering primes such as Airbus, BAE systems and Rolls Royce, many commercial and defence aircraft are flying today with components that have been heat treated by Wallwork.

From complex jet engine and landing gear parts, to fasteners and fixings, the company provides the same attention to detail, quality and customer service across all its sites based on the high standards of its aerospace approvals.

Aerospace components sometimes require the design and casting of special jigging and furnace fixings. These optimise efficiency and best value for the customer and provide a platform for component stabilisation. To ensure bespoke castings are made on fast turnarounds to match customer requirements, the company has its own on-site foundry equipped with CAD/CAM pattern making machines dedicated to this process.

Collins added: “Safety and traceability are vital to aerospace, and retaining Nadcap accreditation gives our customers confidence that we have the quality processes in place to partner with them. Our quality team and staff work hard, and have been doing so since our initial involvement with Nadcap in 2006, to ensure that we maintain these high standards.”
