UK engineering and fabrication company WEC Group has achieved AS 9100 Rev C certification for its specialist machining division.

WEC Machining is the third division of the Group to receive the internationally recognised quality management system standard as the company strives to build its order book in the aviation, space and defence industries.

In addition to being accredited for laser and waterjet cutting, the company’s certification for machining will open up valuable new opportunities as major aerospace manufacturers and suppliers worldwide require compliance and/or registration to AS 9100 as a condition of doing business with them.

Stephen Fitzpatrick, CEO of WEC Machining, said: "Receiving the AS9100 accreditation at WEC Machining has been a real team effort involving a lot of people. We have identified a number of key areas as part of an ambitious growth strategy. We see aerospace as a sector where we can make great strides, and we are actively working to ensure that happens."

The certification is a result of stringent process and quality measures assessed by BSI and is in addition to the existing ISO 9001:2008 accreditation.

Mihaela Mladin, WEC group quality manager said: “All the people involved were 100% committed to achieving the accreditation in such a short space of time, with all changes to the system done to an extremely high standard. The next step will be to gather all the team and monitor projects from start to finish with complete involvement from Quality to ensure customer satisfaction is achieved.”
