What's in a name?

I have to laugh at some of the job titles being thought up in industry.

I've always been slightly irked by the title: sales executive as it's a rather over-lofty title for a teenager tasked with telesales duties. Equally, the term 'engineer' should not be bandied around too carelessly to the sales function when in many cases they are clearly not qualified in any 'engineering' discipline to earn the title. Another one is waste management and disposal technician describe a bin man. So what's in a name? The reason it's suddenly got my goat is because I'm just writing up an interview with Gould Alloys in Markham Vale, Chesterfield and I've just heard the phrase 'engineered revert' used to describe 'swarf'. Well, I've heard it all now! Mike Richardson, editor
