Dormer reaching new heights in aerospace machining

Dormer Tools says its expertise in developing cutting tools for aerospace applications has been underlined with the launch of a new publication.

By working closely with specialists at the forefront of the industry, the tooling manufacturer has acquired a unique perspective into the latest technologies and processes used in the field of aerospace component machining.

To celebrate the advances made, Dormer has produced an ‘Aerospace Applications' brochure that highlights an extensive range of cutting tools specifically developed to excel in applications where superior performance and quality are demanded.

Ricky Payling, Dormer's key account manager for aerospace and composites said: “Dormer's range of tooling covers key aircraft structures including the airframe, landing gear and engine, as well as commonly used materials such as aluminium and composites.

“One of the most prevalent aircraft manufacturing procedures is the drilling of rivet holes to attach the skin to the aircraft structure and is typically undertaken in a number of steps. However, Dormer's rivet drills have been designed to promote precise ‘one-shot' drilling of countersunk holes, enabling significant cost-per-hole benefits through increased tool life and productivity. The range is available with various coatings and in a range of substrate materials – including PCD – to accommodate a range of airframe structures and materials.”
