The Trelleborg Group has, through its business area Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, completed the acquisition of German-based aerospace interiors company MG Silikon, a business formerly within Saint-Gobain Group.
The company specialises in sealing solutions for aerospace such as seals for airframes, windows, and cabins, and for industrial applications, with its head office and manufacturing facilities located in Lindau, Germany.
Torben Anderson, aerospace segment director for Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, said: “With the acquisition of MG Silikon, we have increased the production capacity of airframe seals and create an even more complete product portfolio for aerospace applications. It expands our silicone-based sealing solutions offering for cabin interiors, which is a strategic growth area for us, and we also access new value-creating products such as injection moulded seals for aircraft windows.”
The aerospace market is expected to show strong growth in the coming years. Aircraft manufacturers and other stakeholders are pursuing projects that make the industry more sustainable, using materials that make aircraft lighter and more aerodynamic, increase engine efficiency, and decrease overall emissions.
Trelleborg is supporting this through the development of lightweight materials that are an alternative to aluminium and have a long product life. For Trelleborg, this bolt-on acquisition is part of the strategy to grow in attractive industries which complement and strengthen the Group's existing offerings.
