This year sees Tridan Engineering celebrate 50 years of engineering excellence and, to mark the occasion, it is offering one local student the chance to win an apprenticeship with the internationally recognised company.

Tridan, which started in 1968 as a local job shop in Clacton-on-Sea, is now one of the largest employers in the area and works closely with local science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) groups to encourage a new generation of engineers. Together with Clacton County High School, it has set a competition for students of all ages to design a ‘Vehicle of the Future’. The winners will be announced at an anniversary celebration BBQ in July, with the winner from the key-stage 4 group being given the fantastic opportunity of an apprenticeship.

“We are passionate about training and encouraging the next generation of engineers,” said managing director, Paul Hawkins. “We started our apprenticeship scheme in 2007 and we have developed close relationships with local schools and colleges to help young people see engineering as a possible career. Our apprentice programme has been a major success with thirteen of our 70+ strong team having completed their apprenticeships and a further six are currently enrolled on similar schemes. It has contributed greatly to our growth, so much so that just two years ago our first apprentice has recently been promoted to a managerial position.”
